A Community Orchestra Website With Tickets on the Concert Page and a Members' Area the Committee Runs Itself
The Brief
The Gold Coast Philharmonic Orchestra is a not-for-profit community orchestra that has played on the Gold Coast since 1984, with around sixty volunteer musicians aged 15 to over 80. Everything around the music is run by a volunteer committee.
The committee asked for three things. Concert-goers should be able to book tickets on the orchestra's own site. Members needed one place for their parts and the rehearsal schedule. And the committee wanted to keep every concert, page and sentence up to date themselves, without waiting for a developer.
The site also had to run without adding licences or subscriptions to the Society's costs.
What We Built
A new website with a members' area behind a login, built so the committee can run it day to day without us.
Tickets on the concert page
Each concert page carries the TryBooking checkout directly, so visitors choose their tickets and pay without leaving the site. Every "Book tickets" button points to that checkout, and a concert drops its booking section on its own once the date has passed.
One place for members
Members sign in with a link sent to their email, with no password to remember. Inside are the parts to download and the rehearsal dates. The committee uploads parts, sets rehearsals and invites new members from the same area.
Access set in the database
Only invited members receive a sign-in link, and the database decides what each person may see. Committee papers stay with the committee, whatever a page asks for.
Every sentence editable by the committee
Concerts, open positions, page text, pop-ups and contact details are all edited in a simple content editor. Saving a change publishes the site again automatically.
A page for new players
Open positions are listed by section, with an expression-of-interest form for musicians who want to join.
Launch and Next Steps
The site is live at goldcoastphilharmonic.org.au. From launch, the committee publishes concerts, uploads parts and invites members without a developer.
Hosting and the members' database run on free plans, so the site adds no new subscriptions to the Society's costs.
